Neogeo on the Nintendo DS!

Remember back in the early 90’s? Yea, me neither. But I really remember wanting a Neo-Geo console. Unfortunately my parents weren’t going to spoil me with a $400 console and spend $100 for each game.

Great news! The Neo-Geo emulator has been ported to the Nintendo DS! I know, sounds too good to be true, huh? Nope, absolutely not. The genius behind this amazing creation is Ben Ingram. Despite its recent arrival to the emulation scene, NeoDS build quality is amazingly solid. Most games run at a nice 45/60 frames per second. If you choose to play the games without sound you will get a nearly perfect framerate.

In order to run this marvel creation, you need a development cartridge. You can obtains these from modchip stores online. Nearly all use rely on external memory for storage (MMC, SD, Micro-SD), allowing for cheap and mass storage ^_^. For anyone relatively new to the DS homebrew scene, here is a good place to start. Extensive news and reviews of hardware and the latest home creation.

The latest build of NeoDS is 0.1.1a, released on March 6. It is only its third release. I cannot express how much I am impressed by this! Anyway, hit the link on the bottom, check out his website, try out the latest version if you have a development flash cartridge, and–importantly–show some support!

Here’s a clip of the emulator running King of Fighters 2000. ^_^
